ASEAN-Australia: Towards 50 years of dialogue relations
ASEAN and Australia share a region and a future.
Since establishing the ASEAN-Australia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership (CSP) on 27 October 2022, we have built strong momentum on delivering the CSP: agreeing shared priorities, increasing resources, and implementing new programs.
In 2024, ASEAN and Australia will celebrate 50 years of dialogue relations, including a Special Summit in Australia in March to reflect on our achievements over half a century of partnership.
As we look forward to the next 50 years of cooperation, and how we can best address shared challenges and seize opportunities in our region, Australia will be with ASEAN every step of the way.
The ASEAN-Australia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership – a year of progress
On 27 October 2021, at the first annual ASEAN-Australia Summit, Australia and ASEAN opened a new chapter with the historic decision to establish a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership (CSP).
Since establishing the CSP, we have ramped up our cooperation with ASEAN, agreeing shared priorities, increasing resources and advancing new programs.
This builds on almost fifty years of deep and broad cooperation, and recognises that only by working together can we tackle some of the region’s most pressing challenges—climate change, rapid digitalisation, and knowledge and skills development.
As we advance our CSP together, Australia will be with ASEAN every step of the way.
Australia with ASEAN: Comprehensive Strategic Partnership
ASEAN and Australia have opened a new chapter in our relations, with the decision to establish a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
Australia is now focused on implementation of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, to deliver substance for the benefit of ASEAN, Australia and the region.
Australia will be with ASEAN every step of the way.
Australia with ASEAN: Supporting Shared Recovery from COVID-19
Australia is ramping up cooperation with ASEAN to support the region's recovery from COVID-19. We are working together across ASEAN’s three pillars, and taking forward concrete cooperation in line with the ASEAN Outlook on the Indo-Pacific. Australia will be with ASEAN every step of the way.
ASEAN- Australia Relations - 'Every Step of the Way'
The ASEAN-Australia partnership has never been stronger. Our relations have grown closer and closer since Australia became ASEAN’s first dialogue partner in 1974. We have significantly ramped up our cooperation in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. Australia will continue to support ASEAN’s priorities. We are committed to constructive and reliable partnership with ASEAN as our region looks towards the opportunities and challenges of the future. As we navigate the road ahead, Australia will be with ASEAN every step of the way.
