Australian Mission to ASEAN

ASEAN-Australia Codeathon

In the lead up to the ASEAN-Australia Special Summit 2018, AUSTRAC will host the ASEAN-Australia Codeathon: the first time such an event will be hosted in Australia.

The ASEAN-Australia Codeathon will focus on countering terrorist financing and enhancing cyber security and will be held in Sydney on 14 and 15 March 2018.

Over 32 hours, the Codeathon will bring together financial intelligence units (FIUs), banks, developers, innovators and other partners from across Australia and ASEAN countries to engage with and construct innovative digital solutions to curb terrorism financing and enhance cyber security. Participants  will solve challenges that won’t be unveiled until the first day of the Codeathon, and will be encouraged to develop innovative solutions and models such as applications or prototypes.

Terrorism financing is a transnational challenge that exploits the intersection between technology and the public/ private sector. A multi-disciplined approach is essential in developing solutions that are dynamic and effective – and thwart terrorists and their supporters from operating with impunity in our region.

AUSTRAC has invited individuals and organisations wishing to express an interest in participating to register for the ASEAN-Australia Codeathon by Friday 19 January 2018. To register and find out more visit the AUSTRAC website
